Studies on PHB (Polyhydroxybutyrate) degradation by some species of Aspergillus
نویسنده
چکیده
PHB degradation capabilities of seven species of Aspergillus namely Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus ochraceus, Aspergillus nidulans, Aspergillus terreus, Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus parasiticus on the polymer produced by Rhodospseudomonas palustris KU003 were assayed . Among all the fungi investigated, the ability of A.niger to utilize the biopolymer was the highest and produced a biomass of 0.22 g/L. This was followed by A.nidulans, A.flavus and A.terreus. The other three fungi A.ochraceus, A.fumigatus and A.parasiticus could not utilize the polymer as carbon source. Significance of the above in the light of existing literature is discussed in this communication.

Biodegradation of different formulations of polyhydroxybutyrate films in soil
BACKGROUND Petroleum polymers contribute to non-degradable waste materials and it would therefore be desirable to produce ecofriendly degradable materials. Biodegradation of polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) in the presence of oligomer hydrolase and PHB depolymerase gave 3-hydroxybutyric acid which could be oxidized to acetyl acetate. Several bacteria and fungi can degrade PHB in the soil. RESULTS Bi...
متن کاملOne-Factor-at-a-Time Optimization of Polyhydroxybutyrate Production and Growth of Alcaligenes eutrophus by Altering Culture Parameters and Incubation Time
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are bioplastics derived from renewable resources such as vegetable oils, corn starch, or microbes. The polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a short-chain-length PHA, and the most important bioplastic produced by certain microorganisms in the presence of excess carbon sources. In this study batch cultivation of Alcaligenes eutrophus with the aim of increasing PHB production ...
متن کاملIdentification of Proteins Associated with Polyhydroxybutyrate Granules from Herbaspirillum seropedicae SmR1 - Old Partners, New Players
Herbaspirillum seropedicae is a diazotrophic ß-Proteobacterium found associated with important agricultural crops. This bacterium produces polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), an aliphatic polyester, as a carbon storage and/or source of reducing equivalents. The PHB polymer is stored as intracellular insoluble granules coated mainly with proteins, some of which are directly involved in PHB synthesis, deg...
متن کاملModeling and Simulation of Polyhydroxybutyrate Production by Protomonas extorquens in Fed-batch Culture
Modeling and simulation of Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) production by Protomonas extorquens in fed-batch culture were conducted in this research. The fed-batch model, developed for this process, employed a kinetic model proposed by other researchers. Several kinetic models were investigated to choose the best model. The criterion for this selection was goodness of fit (δ2). Haldane kinetic model w...
متن کاملComparative in situ biodegradation studies of polyhydroxybutyrate film composites
Application of polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) to plastic industry has expanded over the last decades due to its attracting features over petro-based plastic, and therefore, its waste accumulation in nature is inevitable. In the present study, a total of four bacterial strains, viz., MK3, PN12, PW1, and Lna3, were formulated into a consortium and subsequently used as biological tool for degradation o...
